Purpose of this Study
We are doing this study to find out how see how easy or difficult it is to complete a hybrid (virtual and in-person) personalized exercise training program for older adults with sickle cell disease. The virtual training sessions will be done primarily on Zoom. This research is important to determine ways to improve movement capacity, heart health, strength, and quality of life in older adults living with sickle cell disease.
Who Can Participate?
Eligibility
Adults ages 40+ who:<ul>
<li>Are diagnosed with sickle cell disease</li>
<li>Do not need supplemental oxygen</li>
<li>Do not use a wheelchair</li>
<li>Do not have any type of unstable heart condition</li></ul>

What is Involved?
If you choose to join this study, participation will involve 4 in-person visits to our clinic. The virtual exercise program lasts for 12 weeks.
In-person visits (completed every three months) include:<ul>
<li>Surveys about living with sickle cell disease and motivation for exercise</li>
<li>A functional assessment of walking speed, a six-minute walk test, core strength, grip strength, and chair stands</li>
<li>Blood draws and urine collection</li></ul>
The virtual exercise sessions will:<ul>
<li>Happen 3 days a week</li>
<li>Include a warmup, mobility/stretching, cardio, strength training, and mindfulness/yoga</li>
<li>Be scaled and personalized by a dedicated fitness instructor, which means we will provide modifications for your personal level of fitness</li></ul>
